Nike and Wieden + Kennedy Portland have put a merry and somewhat romantic twist on this new Nike ‘Free’ running campaign; a video of two long distance lovers, running from East to West Coast to see each other.
She is kitted out in Nike and is proven to be the strong runner of the pair, singing all of the way. Whereas he, who is not ‘kitted out’, is less admirable and barely makes it across New York City.
Shot in three cities and five states over 11 days the ad brings comedy and love to an already familiar tale and the light hearted lyrics are perfectly suited to it. The films shows if you are a strong enough runner you can not only sing whilst you run, but that you can run anywhere… if you love running.
Nike claim the spot is “inspired by the idea that if a runner is strong, she can sing while running” and they are supporting this theory with a social-media campaign, debuting next week, which challenges runners to test their strength and sing whilst running.
Now we’re not too sure about this running Karaoke and quite hope it doesn’t catch on but we do like the ad. It’s cute and motivational.
